Controller

Summary:

The Financial Controller is responsible for the supervision of the accounting department, and coordination of the department daily, weekly and monthly activities. These activities include management of the accounting Systems, General Accounting, Month End Close, Financial Reporting and Budgeting processes. It is required to carry out its duties in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles issued by the Financial Accounting Standards Board that establishes financial accounting and reporting standards for public and private companies.

 

Qualifications

  • Directs, coordinates and reviews the work plan of the accounting department; assigns work activities and projects; monitors workflow; reviews and evaluates work products; methods and procedures; meets with staff to lead, motivate, and resolve problems. Ensures the accounting department timely dissemination of financial management reports including, but not limited to, internal and external monthly financial statements annual audits and annual budgets.
  • Coordinates monthly and year-end closings for all general ledgers for all companies; monitors, reviews, and approves closing transactions and journal entries; maintains control and master files; prepares, reviews, and distributes monthly and annual general ledger reports as well as other periodic financial reporting.
  • Establish processes that support best practice to ensure security of company assets by making sure that all activities are conducted on a timely basis and under the GAAP rules. Manage the cash flow projections and cash flow needs to support the company operations. Ensure cash custody and accuracy by reviewing bank reconciliations on a periodic basis.
  • Oversee the activities of the accounts receivable department including: the review and process of sales proceeds and management of accounts receivable, daily sales reconciliation and accurate cash receipts application, accurate and timely recording of A/R activities including aging reporting and collections. Management of the automated processes for recording sales and weekly distribution of sales reports and trending. Ensure affiliated revenue with foreign organizations is reconciled and proper collections and payment of commissions is tied to reconciled sales.
  • Oversees the activities of the purchasing processes including management of PO's, ensuring proper processing of invoices under the three-way match method, planning and reviewing payments and disbursements, management of the treasury function, and inward and outward movement of cash resources. Reconciliation of purchase orders and accounts payable system; prepares reports of rejected receipts and forwards to originator for action; maintains receipts file and vendor master file; controls issuance of vendor numbers and filing of 1099's with the IRS and reporting to vendors.
  • Oversees management and custody of inventories, including parts and supplies, managed fixed assets including the proper accounting of CAPEX purchases or operating/capital leases, and or fixed asset divestitures. Manage the reporting of IFTA on a federal and state basis maintaining proper records in conjunction with the Safety department. Manage the lease accounting practices regarding leases including Right of Use and Long and Short Term lease liabilities.
  • Participates in improvement projects within the company, identifying opportunities for improving service delivery methods and procedures; identifies resource needs; reviews with appropriate management staff; formulates and implements improvements.
  • Coordinates audits with certified public accounting firms and government agencies; coordinates efforts to complete audits in a timely manner; prepares and reconciles confirmation requests to banks, legal counsel, funding agencies, and other parties; prepares and reviews schedules, reconciliations, worksheets, and analyses required by audits.
  • Is responsible for the preparation for annual budgets for all companies and departments, plans and interact with the operations group to gather and analyze operating data to assemble and establish the company annual consolidated budget. In addition, reviews budget objectives analyzing variances and issuing corrective recommendations to the management group.
  • Ensures that effective internal controls policies and procedures are in place and ensure compliance with GAAP applicable to federal local and state laws affecting the company activities.

 

 

REQUIRED

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting from an Accredited University.
  • MBA would be nice but not required
  • 6 to 5 years of work related accounting experience
  • Experience with financial reporting and variance analysis is needed.
  • Excellent knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, (GAAP)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office. Strong skills in Excel using data tables, pivot tables and the suite of data analytic tools is key
  • Proficient with SAP4H
  • Ability to prioritize work and deadlines in a fast-paced lean environment
